About us

Glasgow Community Seed Cooperative is a grassroots project supporting seed sovereignty in Scotland.

We work with local growers, community gardens, food and land justice projects, ecologists, artists and researchers. We aim to create, revive and celebrate practices and cultures of growing, saving and sharing seeds in Glasgow and beyond.

We care for and maintain an open, accessible library of seed for growers and seedsavers in Glasgow. At present, the seeds can be browsed and deposited in a cabinet hosted by The Mitchell Library in the city centre.

In our work, we hope to nurture ecological diversity, support food sovereignty both locally and globally, and build community-led climate resilience and adaptation.

We dream of just worlds where people live in reciprocal relationship with the land and where seed saving is our shared practice of resistance and flourishing.

Our history

Glasgow Community Seed Cooperative grew out of Glasgow Seed Library, an unincorporated project initiated in 2019. It was first hosted by Centre for Contemporary Arts Glasgow, and developed in collaboration with Glasgow Community Food Network, Glasgow Allotments Forum and local growers.

The cooperative was established in 2025 as a means of sharing resources and responsibility for the library more equitably with our wider community. We follow cooperative principles, which include being owned by our members, every member having an equal say and contribution, and existing to support the communities we work with.

Whether you’re a local grower, collaborator or simply a supporter of our work, we will shortly open an invitation for new folk to become members of the cooperative. Watch this space!
